Barney Butter Review & My Mix Granola WINNER!!

Jennifer from Barney Butter sent me a jar of Almond Butter to try out, along with some single serving packs. While I eat almonds every day, 12 to be exact, this was my first time tasting almond butter. It wasn't what I expected, which to be honest, was for it to taste like peanut butter. I tried the smooth variety which was SO smooth. Much smoother than a creamy peanut butter in my opinion. There was a touch of sweetness to too, which of course, I liked!

Barney Butter is made with almonds, evaporated cane juice, palm oil and sea salt. In 2 tablespoons, there are 180 calories, 15g fat, 3g fiber and 6g protein. It's actually manufactured in a peanut free facility so this is a great option for those who are allergic to peanuts. It also has less saturated fat than peanut butter but more calcium, iron and vitamin E.

I liked this (as seen by the empty jar in the photo above!), but I have to say, I prefer peanut butter. I didn't try it in my oatmeal and I really wish I had, but it didn't last that long in the house!! I'll use one of the single serving packs for that. Also thought one of those might be a good choice for nutrition during a long run. Anyone ever try that? Andy liked it a lot and actually said he prefers this over peanut butter. Now, for the Biscuit Rating...we're giving this puppy 8 biscuits!

And now for the winner of the My Mix Granola GIVEAWAY! I randomized the entries using http://www.random.org/, then used random.org to pick a number. The lucky winner is ELLEN!! Ellen, please email me at pfismyfriend@yahoo.com.

For those who did not win, Raoul has offered $3 off your order if you use the promotion code "RUNDENISE" at checkout!

I just saw these individual packs at REI last week and was wondering whether they might be good race/long run fuel - if you try it, let me know.

Hope the move went well this weekend!

LOVE the empty jar. How was the move? I'm always tempted to try almond butter, but at over $7 a jar I've been reluctant, just in case I didn't like it (but can't imagine that I wouldn't!)...maybe I'll give it a shot!

I've never tried almond butter, but it sounds pretty good - definitely worth trying.

I don't know about long run nutrition... if the consistency is like PB, it would be too thick & sticky I think.

Thanks for the review!

I do love Almond Butter. You are right, the first bite gives you something really unexpected then it takes a while to decide if you really like it. :)

I haven't tried Barney Butter, but heard of it. I'm kind of turned off by all the added ingredients in it. The brand I purchase doesn't have any added sweeteners (natural or not) and I like that. Peanut butter has become no less important in my life even though almond butter is now a part of it though. Ha!

Hi there!

I came across your blog and saw that you enjoy eating healthy and excerising. I'm not sure if you've tried Greek yogurt, but it's strained which leaves it with twice the protein and half the sugar of regular yogurt. Stonyfield Farm makes Oikos Organic Greek yogurt which has a whopping 15 grams of protein per 5.3 oz. serving, which is a great snack to fuel your training schedule.

I'd love to send you some free coupons to give Oikos a try. If you're interested just shoot me an email at kdrociak@stonyfield.com and let me know where to send them.

Take care,
Kristina

I just noticed you stopped by my blog. Thanks!! I have known lots of crazy ultra runners (Western States 100 types). Have fun with it. When you are done with that, try something a little easier on the body, an Ironman!!
