Word on the street is that Boston is on target to sell out this week. What a bummer!! I guess this is the chance you take with running a late Fall marathon but apparently it's unusual for Boston to sell out this early. Now, nothing has happened yet, but I will say it dampened my spirit a little when I heard the news. I mean, I'm still going to give 150% but if it does sell out, it will be weird trying so hard for something that I can't even run until 2011. On the other hand, if it doesn't sell out, I feel like I need to be ready to register immediately after the race (if I qualify, I mean, when I qualify) since there will be a flood of people looking to do the same thing. Then there is the issue of booking a hotel ASAP, etc. I'm not sure which is worse...having it sell out and being bummed, or being rushed to book stuff!! I'm not good making quick decisions, in fact, I'm not good at making any decisions!! So, right now it's in the hands of the Boston Gods...I'll just have to wait and see what happens.
I went for my 5 mile run on Monday with the middle 3 miles at 8:20. I felt great!!! Something just clicked during that run and my confidence went through the roof!! I came home beaming and at that moment I knew I was ready. I trained smart, I put in the effort, and now all I can do is run!! If you've been reading my blog, you know there's no hiding the fact that I lack in the confidence department. So I'm going to follow some wise words from Coach Jack. During our run this past weekend he told me, "D, you have to let yourself be successful at this." He's exactly right and that's exactly what I'm going to do!
Oh, and the shot blok holder worked like a charm!! I'll definitely be doing this for the marathon and using my hand held. I'm glad I got that figured out.

I have a couple of thoughts about this....first of all I can't believe it is so close to selling out their are still a lot of big races coming up Philly, CIM, etc. Second of with my ultimate running goal being a BQ with my Dad I want this to be something that is special and if everyone is doing it or looks like more than normal than it won't be that way.....on a positive note my goal is to qualify for 2011 so if you run that year hopefully we will be doing it together!!!!!
I totally feel your anxiety. I just qualified this past weekend and I am still nervous. I got a confirmation number, but they still haven't charged my credit card. I'm making $1600 hotel reservations today! Let's just hope we all get in! My knees are glued to the floor praying to the Boston Gods!
Great job on the run! Take that confidence and run with it, literally. You're gonna need it out there! So excited for you! :)
Oh, and to Anna Banana - it's still special if everyone is doing it. I worked my tail off to get my BQ, and I know that not just anyone can run a 3:38 like me. So good luck to you. I know what I did is awesome, and when you cross the line with your BQ, you will, too. I think it just means that people are stepping up there game and all their own hard work has paid off, too.
I love it when that feeling just hits you!
YOU CAN DO IT!
Hmmm maybe they will expand... I mean gosh I can't imagine them closing it to people who have worked their hind ends off!
Wow, that is SO early!! Nothing you can do about it. Run your race, "let yourself succeed" and see what happens. Don't let it take away from your mission to BQ. You've got this, girl!!!
I'm nervous about Boston selling out before Philly since I'm hoping my boyfriend qualifies so we can run together! I wonder why it's filling up so fast compared to other years.
Are you going out at 3:40 pace? Or a little faster? A little slower? I'm sure you have a game plan!
ugg yes i have heard this... oh well, i figure whatever happens, happens and if its not meant for us to run 2010 WHEN we qualify then we will just be there in 2011 :) keep your focus on the race in front of you, nothing you can do about the rest! getting closeeee!
Don't stress about it selling out. Focus on this race and try your hardest. If for some reason it sells out before you get in, you can just be that much faster next year.
You are a total inspiration and I love reading your blog. Thank you!
Good luck! Have faith it won't sell it! Either way you will GET to Boston! I could never qualify for your doing amazing.
You have done everything you need to do in training to make it happen. Enjoy the adventure of the race and take what comes, then go from there. Above all, have fun with it!
I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you darling!!!
I HOPE for you that you can get your BQ and get registered.. It would be hard to wait until 2011..like I will have to LOL..I don't lack in the confidence department.
I bet if you don't find a place right away that there may be a friendly Blogger willing to host you..
I agree with your comment, #2 would be way worse...Did you write about that on your Blog?
Love the advice from your coach and the shot block holder! Good luck!
That does add some stress to things. Hopefully it won't fill up until after you qualify. I'm glad you found a way to hold the bloks!
I'm hoping for you, and for a few of my friends running Tucson, that it stays open awhile. I heard least year it was going to close a lot sooner than it did, though.
As for hotels, you can book now and cancel, if needed. I found last year that tons of hotel rooms open up the two weeks before Boston because can't make it for one reason or another. I changed hotels to get one closer to all the hoopla. Of course, you PAY for this convenient.
I hope all goes well! Wishing you only the best!
I'll pray that it's just a rumor! Run Strong!!!
I love your coach's advice - this one is yours for the taking.
"when" you qualify... you're exactly right. Keep your focus, try not to worry too much about the race selling out -- i've got my fingers crossed for ya!
hi denise, saw your comment on my blog. i went to high school outside of philly and love to race down there even though i'm in CT now. some day have to do philly marathon....not this year though!
Keeping my fingers crossed for your registration! (You won't need me to cross them for your BQ race, because you're 100% prepared for it, and can do it!!!)
Run your race, D! Let everything else fall into place :)
I'd book the hotel NOW!!
Sounds like you are ready to kick some asphalt!
WHEN you BQ, just book any hotel. You can always cancel. Don't let the hotel stress you.
You'll do great, Denise! No doubt!
Yup, it's official...registration for the 2010 Boston Marathon is closed as stated on their website. 2011 registration will open in September 2010.
Eeek, that is scary. My fingers are crossed for you. For everything!
