If (you notice I say "if" a lot when it comes to racing Philly…I'm still not dead set on what I want to do this year) I were to race Philly, I would love, love, love a 3:35. That means I should do each 800 in 3 minutes 35 seconds, or a 7:10 pace. (Right?? I had trouble figuring this out so I hope I did them right!) Based on what I've read, I should be up to about six 800's at this point in training but since I'm a little behind and just starting I thought I'd do three (which turned into four) and then next week try to double that.
I warmed up for 2 miles then went to town.
#1 – ave 7:13 (still waking up, but feels ok)
#2 – ave 7:07 (this feels good!)
#3 – ave 7:10 (wheeeeee!!)
#4 – ave 7:10 (I'm suppose to do 10 of these???)
Total – 7 mi in 60 minutes
These weren't nearly as bad as I thought they would be and I felt really good. My legs were getting a little tired come #4 but I was able to push through without problem. I wanted to do a few more but didn't think it was a smart decision with it being my first time trying this workout. I'm already excited for next week to do some more. It makes it so much more interesting and fun when you change it up a bit and add some speed!!
Thanks for all the nice comments regarding the Philly half on Sunday. Post race and all this week I've been feeling great. I really feel like my old self again. :-)
Here I am rockin' the uniform!
Here's my schedule for the week:
Mon – off
Tues – 7 mi
Wed – Swim
Thurs – 7 mi w/ 800's
Fri – 5 mi, lift
Sat – 18 mi
Sun – 5 mi, lift

i love 800s. its like lifting weights, you can do 10 minutes and walk away feeling like you got a great workout.
Great job--way to nail the pace every time!
Using this pace calculator (hope that link worked??), I got 7:12.5 pace for a 3:35 800. Either way, you nailed the workout! Awesome!!
NICE job on the 800s! you rocked them! they are tough but my fav out of the intervals :)
love the pic - you look great in your uniform :)
Yasso 800's are awesome!!! I love doing them because the miles just fly by! I think you're being smart on keeping them on the low side for now - if you want to be even more cautious, try them on the dreadmill - I think 8.5 mph is 7:03 - I usually do my 1/4 mile in between at 7.5.
Good luck girlie!
great job!
Cool workout, looking forward to your times as you double the workout. I'm sure you'll nail it.
Nice mileage this week.
And that's a great race photo, Brooks should pay for it.
Nice job. I can't imagine doing 10 either. I'm only up to 8.
I've never done 800's, but it looks like a great workout!
Training's going okay - thanks for asking... it's taken me awhile to get my head into the game after Untamed, but I'm enjoying the speed workouts (alternating between tempo runs and mile repeats), and finally getting into a groove with the long runs (14 miles on the treadmill last week during the Eagles game has to count for something, right?).
Nice job on the 800's! You rocked your yasso's!
great job on the 800s
it can be painful but pays off big time
Way to go on your first 800's! (It's one of my fav workouts). Sounds like you're in great shape for Philly - can't wait!
