Since I'll be heading to Boston in April, our annual Caribbean trip which we usually take somewhere from March to April needed to be moved. We originally thought we would go over our anniversary in July but then this little race popped up which I really wanted to do. On top of that, we wanted to make our annual trip to Ocean City, MD with friends and we just couldn't figure out how to time everything. Determined to figure things out so I could stop stressing about it, we hashed it all out this weekend. In the end, it was decided that we will not be going to Jamaica in July. Instead, I'll be racing the NJ State Olympic TRI!!! Yes, I'm jumping up to the Olympic distance without even having done a sprint TRI. And because that's how I like to roll, there might be one more jump in TRI distance before the end of the year. Sooo nervous about that one!
Now, back to that Jamaica trip that isn't happening in July. Turns out that's going to happen in December. And it just so happens it falls right when the Reggae Marathon is taking place. Ok, so it didn't just happen that way, it was planned, but who cares...I'm running the REGGAE MARATHON!!!! I've wanted to run this since I ran my first marathon so I'm beyond excited about this. Jamaica holds a very special place in my heart since I was married there in 2004 and I can not wait to run 26.2 miles around this beautiful island. The only downside is that I have to wait almost 11 months for this trip. Hopefully with how busy I'm keeping myself over the months leading up to it will make the time go fast.
Running last week went well and on Saturday I had a tough 18 miler. Frigid temps, windy and hills, but we got it done. I finished off the week with a nice swim yesterday. At this point with the swimming I'm just working on form and breathing. After a few more swims like this, I'm going to start with some drills and endurance work. I have to keep telling myself that there won't be a wall to stop at and hold on to if I need it during these triathlons. And to be honest, that scares the crap out of me. In fact, everything about a TRI scares the crap out of me.
Here's my schedule for the week:
Mon - 4 mi (and that's it, taking it easy today)
Tues - 8 mi (ladder workout)
Wed - cross training / lift
Thurs - 8 mi (tempo run 2 mi)
Fri - 4 mi / lift
Sat - 19 mi
Sun - swim

I've always wanted to do a destination race like that - sounds like a blast!
Any hints on which event you're eyeing for the fall?
That sounds awesome! Great job on the run..winter can bite me.
OH that sounds FUN!!!
You have so many fun trips planned, I am jealous. running in Jamaica sounds amazing. I have only done a few sprint tris and I am jumping up to a half iron in June, you'll rock the Olympic =)
Exciting!!! good luck with the TRI training!!!
Ok - I am so so so so so excited for you to do the marathon in Jamaica! My husband and I were married there 7 years ago, and we just went back for the first time a few months ago - and we took our three daughters. We were there one week before the marathon, and I was so bummed that the trip didn't fall a week later. You are going to have a blast!
Ah! Seriously, I'm so pumped for you! Love it. And can't wait to hear all about it.
Oh, and I think that the way you roll is brilliant. That is exactly what I would do with a TRI, also. Balls in. :)
I love this race. I've run it in 2009 and 2010 and have had great fun both times. I'm now the Reggae Marathon blogger www.reggaemarathon.com and loved your post. Keep in touch. My direct email is chris@outsourcedmarketing.ca Let's connect at the Pasta Party Friday night in Negril.

Too freaking awesome. I am definitely looking into it since you mentioned it. Hubs and I honeymooned in Jamaica and I would love to go back. This would be amazing if we can make it work!
