Mistake

Not much to chat about but I had to come clean. It turns out I wasn't 3rd overall female at Sunday's 5k. With all the rain, the writing on the bibs ran off during the morning and the timing company had a terrible time trying to piece everything together as the runners came in. Note to race organizers of small races: use a Sharpie. The official results are posted and according to them, I finished 22:22 and 4th overall female. Technically I should have taken home 1st in my age group and my little trophy should have gone to a 17 year old who beat me by roughly 30 seconds. I'm going to email the race organizer to let them know and see how they want to handle it. If I get to keep the trophy, I'll be sure to cross out the 3 and make it a 4! I don't want anything I didn't earn...guess I'll have to fight harder for it this Saturday at the Relay for Life 5k! This course holds my 5k PR from last year, 21:50. If this cold I have ever leaves my body, I'm hoping I can beat that!

What would you do if you found out that they messed up the awards??

Here's my schedule for the week:
Mon - Off
Tues - 6 mi
Wed - 4 mi, lift
Thurs - 15 mi
Fri - cross train
Sat - 5k
Sun - 6 mi (maybe more since I'll be at the beach!!)

Bummer!!! I would 'fess up too... runner's karma! Now, if there were a cash prize, it might be a different story. lol, KIDDING!

Good luck at the next 5K!

Glad you're contacting the race director. We had a similar error in a race earlier this month and the stats were corrected and the awards were given out properly. Good for you for still coming out 1st in your age group!!!!

I would contact the RD just to be honest. It has happened in races before and usually they fix it for print.

I'd would have done the same thing. I hope they give a trophy to the 3rd place girl, but let you keep yours too!

What a bummer, but way to handle it with such integrity! The same thing happened to my boyfriend at a cycling race.. except he was in the 17-year old's position and they figured it out long before everyone went home. I'm so sorry!! I'm sure you'll kick some ass in the next race!

Yeah, I think I'd fess up, too. Hopefully the race director will appreciate it. And then you can celebrate the first AG!

Good luck at this weekend's race!

You did the right thing, but hell you ran a great race considering your circumstances.
I'd probably grab a few more photos with the trophy before shipping it back. Oh, and make sure your boot is in the picture. Nice recovery!
